A Must -- The Essential Michael Taylor January 17, 2009 Sam Crocker (San Francisco) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
In this beautiful, exhaustively researched book, the author brings to vivid focus both the elegant simplicity and comfortably luxe opulence which were benchmarks of the designer's grand vision--a fine cross-section of which is presented in this book. Michael Taylor's own inspirations are generously acknowledged, but here his on-going legacy and influence become most obvious. In the end picture, nobody else could put it all together with such appropriate eclat! How fortunate we are to be well reminded of this fact.
Superb February 10, 2009 van der Hof (San Francisco, CA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
An exellent book in all respects; thoroughly researched, beautifully photographed and showcasing the tremendous diversity of Taylor'd design esthetic. A long overdue tribute to the creator of the "California Style" who still was a master of Classic proportion with an unerring eye for mixing the antique with the modern. A must have for all design collections !
A gorgeously illustrated book March 15, 2009 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Michael Taylor was a contemporary interior designer deemed the 'best in the U.S.' by society and fashion photographer Cecil Beaton: his style revolutionized interior design in the 1970s and 80s, introduced 'California style' and brought logs and earth into the home. A gorgeously illustrated book makes for a celebration of his lasting California heritage works - which include his own Sea Cliff home and the restaurant Fleur de Lys in San Francisco. Any arts library strong in interior design and California collections in particular - even general-interest California history holdings - need this.
