Product Description Concrete is a fascinating material in the hands of a creative person. The Direct Concrete Technique, illustrated in this book, empowers anyone to make furniture or sculpture by hand without molds or forms. The key to this method is the use of a steel armature covered with wires. With 296 vivid color photos and precise text, you can learn the steps necessary to use concrete as a fine art material to create innovative and imaginative furniture, from initial concept and the creation of the armature to the application of concrete and finishing the artwork. Bold and elegant designs of lightweight curvilinear elements can be fashioned with this method. The advantages of concrete and the direct technique are numerous, and the results are immediate and durable. Skills to make free-formed objects of concrete are easily mastered and creative opportunities abound throughout the process. A furniture gallery is provided for further inspiration.

| Customer Reviews: thank you April 7, 2008 hair guru (st. augustine, fl) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I ordered this book because I've become interested in the process of sculpting with concrete. There is so little information out there! I read this two times, from cover to cover, in one sitting. I currently sculpt with metal, so this book just helped everything fall into place. By watching a project unfold, I was given insight into timing projects, possible disasters, and the vast potential of this medium. This was money well spent, and I can't wait to get into the studio and start playing.

excellent book, takes you step by step (with plenty of pictures) all the way through one project, from conception through final finishes. explains all tools, materials and processes. got one for myself and another for a gift.

The text was interesting, although a bit more complicated than I had hoped. Great looks and unique methods.
A little focused on making the one item on the cover. January 7, 2010 K. Wilken (College Station, Tx) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my Dad to look through for ideas, instead the book only focused on making the (albeit awesome) table on the cover. There are 2 pages of other ideas in the back of the book, some of which were incredible, but it assumed you would know how to make them just by looking at the table's instructions.
It tells you how to make the chair on the cover September 13, 2008 Athenasculptress (Mountains) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Basically, it tells you how the chair was made on the cover. It has some good points, but limited.
