A moving and poignant celebration, this selection of images ranges from Saxon graves to the shrine where D. H. Lawrence is buried in Taos, New Mexico, and even the memorial windows in a Gloucestershire church commemorating the Reverend Awdry, creator of Thomas the Tank Engine. There are superb photographs of the tomb of the 14th-century knight Sir John Marmion in a little parish church in Yorkshire, of T. E. Lawrence’s tomb in Wareham, Dorset, of the beautiful memorial to the fallen of the First World War at Swaffham Prior in Cambridgeshire, and the strange Cadaver Tombs from the time of the Black Death.
